Academic Services

I offer an editorial and proofreading service for work in Arts and Humanities areas, and the more general of the Social Science disciplines. I am familiar with a number of the most popular academic styles in these disciplines such as MHRA, Chicago and APA.

If you have written an article or book which you intend to submit for publication to an academic journal or publisher, I can help you by:

  • Checking documents in respect of spelling, grammar and punctuation;
  • Improving the structure of sentences and paragraphs to enhance clarity and concision;
  • Suggesting where text might be tightened or abridged if it is too long for the submission requirements;
  • Ensuring consistency of style, fact, formatting and referencing;
  • Applying a defined style guide to your work.

If you are the editor of a journal and you are looking for a regular copy-editor to apply your style guide and ensure consistency across all your published articles, I would be more than happy to discuss this with you: please use the Contact page to get in touch. I currently work as a copy-editor for various Sage journals.

Work to be submitted for assessment

Have you written a PhD thesis or Master’s dissertation which needs proofreading before submission? I can help you by:

  • Checking documents in respect of spelling, grammar and punctuation;
  • Commenting on the structure of sentences and paragraphs to enhance clarity and concision;
  • Ensuring consistency of style, formatting and referencing;
  • Checking that your work adheres to the defined style guide.

If the document you are sending me will later be submitted for assessment, there are some specific terms and conditions which will ensure that you do not fall foul of your institution’s rules on the allowable input of a proofreader. Please see my  PhD/Master’s terms and conditions for further information.

How much will it cost?

As each document will vary in content, length and the nature of the work required, I will ask to see a sample and will produce an individual quotation for you.
